Privacy Policy
Last Updated: November 25, 2024
1. Introduction
Welcome to Ankor (“the Application,” “we,” “us”). Ankor is a digital well-being application designed to help you reduce distractions by blocking access to specific apps until you verify the presence of a physical object (“Anchor”). Your privacy is fundamental to us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use our mobile application.
2. Data We Collect and Permissions Requested
To provide the core functionalities of the Application, we require access to specific data and permissions on your Android device.
2.1. App List (QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES)
- What we collect: The list of applications installed on your device.
- Why: To allow you to select which applications you want to block during your focus sessions.
- Processing: This data is processed exclusively locally on your device. The list of your apps is never sent to our servers nor shared with third parties.
2.2. Usage Statistics (PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS)
- What we collect: Information about which application is currently in the foreground (open on the screen).
- Why: To detect in real time if you are opening an application you have chosen to block, allowing Ankor to intervene.
- Processing: Monitoring occurs only locally and in real time. We do not store a history of your activities, nor do we analyze app content.
2.3. Accessibility Service (BIND_ACCESSIBILITY_SERVICE)
- What we collect: The Application uses accessibility services to retrieve window content solely to detect the package name of the active app.
- Why: This is essential for the blocking function (“Core Feature”). Without this permission, Ankor cannot prevent the opening of distracting apps.
- Processing:
• The Application does NOT use accessibility services to read sensitive screen content (such as messages, emails, financial data, or passwords).
• The Application does NOT modify user settings without consent.
• Use is strictly limited to detecting the opening of blocked apps to overlay the blocking screen.
2.4. Camera and Images (CAMERA)
- What we collect: Photos taken through the app to set up or verify the “Anchor” object.
- Why: To compare the captured object with the saved one and unlock the apps.
- Processing: Images are sent to the Artificial Intelligence API (Google Gemini) for analysis. Images are treated as ephemeral data: they are analyzed for verification purposes and are not permanently stored on the servers.
3. Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
We use Google Gemini APIs to analyze object images.
- When you take a photo to verify the anchor, the image is securely (encrypted) transmitted to Google’s servers.
- Google processes the image solely to determine whether it matches the original anchor.
- We do not use AI for biometric identification of people or for collecting sensitive data from the surrounding environment.
4. Data Storage
Ankor follows a “Local-First” approach:
- You do not create a user account (No email or password required).
- Preferences, blocking schedules, and anchor associations are saved in your device’s internal storage.
- If you uninstall the app, all associated data will be permanently deleted from the device.
5. Data Sharing with Third Parties
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal data to third parties. Data is shared only with essential service providers for technical operation:
- Google (Gemini API): For image processing (as described above).
6. Data Security
We implement appropriate security measures to protect your data. All communications to Google APIs occur via secure HTTPS protocol. However, no method of Internet transmission or electronic storage is 100% secure; therefore, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Children’s Privacy
The Application is not directed toward individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify you of any changes by publishing the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the date above.

2. Description of the Service
Ankor is a productivity tool that allows users to block access to specific applications on their device until a visual verification through the camera is completed or a set period of time has passed. The service is provided “as is” and “as available.”
3. User Responsibilities and Safety Warnings
Important Safety Notice
- App Blocking: The user is solely responsible for choosing which applications to block.
- Critical Apps: It is strongly discouraged to block applications essential for safety or emergencies, including but not limited to: Phone (Dialer), SMS, Medical Apps, Banking Apps, or System Settings.
- Emergency Situations: The developers of Ankor are not responsible for any damage, loss, or consequences resulting from the inability to access a blocked application during an emergency.
4. Unlocking Features and Limitations
- AI Unlocking: Object recognition via AI may not be flawless. Lighting, angle, or background variations may affect verification.
- Emergency Unlock: The Application provides a limited “Emergency Unlock” feature (currently set to a maximum number of daily uses). Once daily attempts are exhausted, the user may need to wait until the next day or use the photo verification procedure to unlock apps.
- Offline: Some features (such as AI verification) require an Internet connection. In offline mode, the app will operate in a limited mode.
5. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the developers of Ankor shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, nor for any loss of profits or revenue, arising from:
